Step 1
In a small pot, scald the buttermilk, then add sugar and salt. Remove from the heat and cool to lukewarm.

Transfer buttermilk mix to a bowl. Add yeast and let proof for 5 min. then whisk together. Add half the flour to the bowl and mix. Add oil and remaining flour then knead the dough quickly.
Step 3
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic and let the dough rise until doubled in bulk.
Step 4
When ready, shape your dough into a loaf, and place in a greased bread pan or loaf pan.
Step 5
Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Step 6
Bake buttermilk bread at 425F for 15 minutes then reduce the heat to 375F for 35 minutes. Move to a wire rack to cool completely.
